Greenway Eulogy

The pixelation and haze surrounding the horses foretold their tragic fate. Iā€™d come to know the horses over the years. They grazed along a local greenway, a loop I walked with friends nearly every week. The day I stopped our stride to take a quick photograph, the two horses nestled together, facing opposite directions, head to rear on each side, which struck me as a visual joke. Well, the joke was on me because sadly, later that week, some sick group of boys shot and killed the speckled horse. The death became a newspaper story about murder and is the only reason I know her name was Jelly. RIP, Jelly.
