His and Hers Ford’s 

The Fords, together since the 1970s, parked in a driveway near my house, two rusty jalopies left outside the unopened garage doors. So close, and yet so far. What must their lives have been? I wonder if the folks who kept these relics imagined that, one day, ma and pa will reappear, walk through the backdoor, toss the car keys on the counter, and say hey.
