Jacob Van Lennepstratt

A bold block long mural depicted the creative process, featuring a beloved Dutch author and his naked muse. A long-term neighborhood resident told me about the pixilation added to the woman’s privates. (No, I didn’t ask.) With recent population changes in The Netherlands, and the increase of Muslim immigrants, sensibilities about public art shifted too. The woman’s crotch, once realistic, and hairy (which also speaks changing tastes) was repainted in the early 2000s. Now her vagina blurs like a 1980s television censor’s tool, the fig leaf of the modern era.
