Victor In and Out

The ultimate couple, you, the seen and unseen, the outer and the inner, the light and the shadow. Victor created this self-portrait for a book called Coming Home, a project I worked on in 2013. Victor and about 25 other men lived in a yearlong residential drug treatment center, specifically addicts or alcoholics, and very often both. The selection to get in required that the men had relapsed at least once. Not knowing anything about recovery I asked why? “Pride, mainly,” Victor said. “You got to break down your barriers enough to receive the lessons.”
