We’re Here

Here we were in the middle of an ancient, sacred space (that took days to reach) and these two smilers were focused on themselves with a selfie stick to prove it. Imagine: Machu Picchu, created before the wheel, at the peak of a high mountain, now considered a wonder of the world, and, okay, you want a selfie?!After a while observing them my disdain, a generational reaction to be sure, faded as I, too, became captured by their youthful adorableness. A meta photo – taken a photo of people taking a photo themselves. Over time, I’ve adjusted to the clever photo tool, that extended metal arm, and accept it as a symbol of the zeitgeist of our times and how I wished I’d invented the simple prong myself.
