Healing and Hanging

A helicopter photograph capturing a typical hangout scene – a couple on a family room couch, a big screen TV facing them full of options. But this wasn’t typical in every way. My nephew, Zach, had just undergone brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumor and his scar is still visible from surgery. The tumor was an oligodendroglioma, which is slow growth tumor and a mouthful. The way their hands mingled and touched looked like a gift, a healing touch offered by a wonderful woman who started dating Zach their freshman year at UCLA. Since that long-ago moment, Zach healed and the young couple eventually parted ways as Zach moved east to earn a PhD in Physics from Columbia University.
